After reading a chapter in “How the Body Knows Its Mind” by cognitive researcher Sian Beilock, I was determined to incorporate more movement into math class to enhance conceptual understanding and to increase neural pathways between more parts of the brain during math learning. This movement is connected to the concept and not just movement for getting wiggles out. I’m excited to share some of that movement, both connected to traditional manipulatives as well as using our bodies to represent our reasoning, and some of the positive outcomes I’ve seen as a result.

We all know Building Thinking Classrooms is the new hype! Incorporating all 14 Practices simultaneously (or even at all) is overwhelming. I’ll share the strategic and meaningful ways I’ve incorporated these practices without supplanting all the other things I was doing well or that were working already.

Twice-exceptional (2e) students are those who are both gifted and have learning disabilities, such as ADHD or dyslexia. This session will help you understand the characteristics of 2e learners and how neurodiversity shapes their needs. You’ll gain practical strategies for designing strengths-based instruction and accommodations that support these unique students, empowering them to succeed in your classroom.

All students need and deserve the opportunity to be creative! All students also need and deserve to develop and practice academic and social language skills. We will engage in and practice language-development strategies that are essential for all students as they learn to be creative independent artists, successful students, and engaged learners. We will explore and use simple digital and traditional tools that support the creative process as we learn.

Learn how our 4th graders brought history to life through historical analysis and collaborative playwriting in a cross-curricular ELA, Social Studies, and Arts project. We’ll share our process and tools to help you bring this engaging experience to your 4th or 5th grade class, culminating in the Utah National History Day competition.
